HickTeck- Owen Sound Technology Lecture Learning Environment

by Gem Webb on May 1, 2008

What a great day of learning and community forwardness. Made me feel like I was back in Toronto at a lecture conference. This year’s HICK Tech in Owen Sound on April 30, 2008 gave lots of information on how to improve business online and offline by offering suggestions from various speakers in areas such as online marketing, internet security, electronics and the environment, agriculture, real-estate, and education. It was inspirational and educating, along with being a great networking resource for fellow Techie’s and business owners wanting to go further with their goals. It started off with an amazing keynote presentation by Heather Champ (Community Manager for Flickr) who shared the power of sharing photos online and the benefits to you personally or for your business. It was interesting to learn how it could create followings for you which could turn into traffic for your website; another 2.0 technology at its best. Throughout the day, we were served 2 amazing meals (ending with local beer!) courtesy of the 100 Mile Market, which was such a delight to the taste buds! After twenty sessions under the topics of Business, Community, Food & Agriculture, and Technology, the day wrapped with a session moderated by CBC personality Nora Young. HICK Tech was organized by Owen Sounder Emma Hogbin, whom I met at the event for the first time and am in awe at the great event she co-ordinated. I recommend to all local area businesses to attend next year!
