Pepsi Uses Bluetooth Technology in Interactive Advertising Campaign

by Gem Webb on November 28, 2007

Soft drink maker, Pepsi, is using Bluetooth wireless technology in a major new billboard marketing campaign, targeted towards cell phone users.

Pepsi’s billboard advertisements have been placed in outdoor locations such as bus shelters and pay phone kiosks in Los Angeles and Orange County, California; Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Denver, Colorado; and Washington D.C., and will run until early June.

Passers by are encouraged to approach the billboards and download a viral video clip onto their cell phones, via a Bluetooth wireless connection. This is made possible by Qwikker’s integrated content distribution technology.

“Bluetooth delivers a truly interactive user experience. It supercharges a campaign by allowing delivery of brand-driven content to a consumer’s cell phone, a part of their daily lives,” explained Karen Robinson, the CEO of Prime Point Media, a pay phone advertising agency. “By enabling specific 700,000 phone kiosk locations with Qwikker Bluetooth technology, we can physically target the campaign to maximize contextual relevance, such as point-of-sale support at convenience stores for Pepsi.”
